When people commonly think of the phrase "Digital Divide", do not think of the separation that is occurring among the United States population. Digital divide is refers to the amount and quality of technology that is distributed around the U.S. or any other country/region. It can cause a split in population because not many have the same amount of internet access as others. In the more urban areas on the U.S. internet has become a necessity for average Americans. Most people spend their time researching information or surfing the web for leisure. With America being one of the worlds most technologically advanced countries, you would think that all if not at least three-fourths of the country would be up to date with technology. Not many people know that those who do not have computers will be effected in the future. As time goes by the demand for computers is increasing. when you think of a computer, many people think of laptap or desk top computers. In this case its not just your average computer but its cellphones, ipods, ipads, and any other piece of technology that can be connected to the internet. As we progress the prices for computer will increase. What will happen to those people who did not have computers then? Most of the people living in rural areas do not have computers because the access was not given to them in the area they live in or they are not economically sound to get one.
I think that the Divide needs to end here. If is not fair for those who are living in rural areas to not have the same access as me ( a D.C. resident). I believe that if they U.S. wants to progress then they need to help out the future generations by giving us all the same amount of access. Great minds come from all around but how will we be able to give these minds the chance to develop and progress if it is not given access to the world around it.
